Check Your Battery Health

Windows laptops

1. Press the Windows key and R at the same time. A small "Run" box opens.
2. Copy this line, paste it into the box, and press Enter:
   cmd /c powercfg /batteryreport /output "%TEMP%\battery-report.html" && start "" "%TEMP%\battery-report.html" Copy
   A black window may flash for a second. That's normal.
3. Your battery report opens in your web browser automatically.
4. Scroll to "Installed batteries" and take a screenshot of it (press Windows + Shift + S). We need the Design Capacity, Full Charge Capacity, and Cycle Count lines.

What you're looking for (example):

In this example the battery holds 81,450 of its original 90,000 mWh, which is 90.5% health.

MacBooks

Quick check: open System Settings > Battery and click the ⓘ next to Battery Health. Screenshot the Maximum Capacity percentage.

For the cycle count too:

1. Hold the Option key and click the Apple menu (the apple logo in the top-left corner).
2. Click System Information (the first item in the menu).
3. On the left, under Hardware, click Power.
4. Screenshot the Health Information section (press Shift + Command + 4 and drag around it).

What you're looking for (example):

iPhones and iPads

1. Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health (on some versions it's Battery Health & Charging).
2. Screenshot the screen showing Maximum Capacity. Newer models also show the cycle count under Settings > General > About.

What your numbers mean

Battery health is the full charge capacity divided by the design capacity. Batteries naturally wear down over time:

• 80% or higher: healthy. No change to your offer.
• 70–79%: worn. The offer is a little lower because we'll likely replace it.
• Below 70%, or "Service Recommended": needs a new battery. We'll factor that into your offer. We still buy it.
